I was having a conversation with a friend recently about how much time we really have in a day that goes to our phones. The average adult in America spends at least 4 hours on their phone. That’s half of your work day!!! And about 86 HOURS PER MONTH! What?! According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day… In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the television. 9 YEARS OF OUR LIVES, WATCHING OUR SHOWS Y’ALL! This is insane and I just can’t help but realize that when we say we don’t have enough time in a day, these statistics show me otherwise.
I have this book buying thing. A pretty cover draws me in, the way a book feels in my hands…I just love everything about it. Except one minor thing was holding me back:I wasn’t reading these pretty little space takers. I would buy, buy, buy and then they would collect dust. I felt discouraged more than encouraged or motivated…anyone else?!
Something had to change and I knew the only thing that would, was me.
I made it a goal to read 12 books last year, I didn’t quite achieve that goal, but I did read 9! Applauding my progress towards growth, I knew the next step I needed to take was accountability. *Enter 2018 book club*
This year, I’m challenging not only myself, but YOU to read 12 books this year! That’s only 1 book per month, y’all! WE CAN DO THIS! If you’re tired of feeding your mind with useless television (Gilmore Girls + Friends are exceptions) and tired of feeling DRAINED on social media, take the challenge to set these privileges aside and pick up a book!
You can pick and choose from my list if you’d like, but if you’d like to join my private book club, be sure to
sign up with your email here! I’ll be sending you tips and tricks for staying ahead on reading, discussing the books, and dropping free PDF’s and hand drawn quotes for you along the way!
I want to throw it back to our first grade days where reading was COOL and fun, we didn’t need much more than a cozy space and pretty paperback in hand. I’m craving more simplicity and self-discipline this year. So what are you waiting for?!
Let’s be bookworms!
