The Mumma family added their newest member to the family this year, and I was lucky to be able to capture this special moment during this newborn session in Tulsa. Baby John is Whitney and Cody’s first baby, and I wanted to ensure they had plenty of beautiful photo memories to look back on. As a parent myself, I know just how fast this time flies by, so I always encourage families to book their sessions to document these precious moments as soon as possible. We decided to build a collection for them, including their maternity session and in-home newborn session.
The Mummas welcomed me right in, and we instantly connected. It was so fun getting to come over and meet Baby John in the comfort of their home. I really am so lucky to be able to work with such amazing families! It’s one of the best parts of my job.
I loved walking into the nursery and seeing the scripture notes all over the wall. I remember when I was expecting my little girl, and I would repeat verses to myself to remind myself to stay calm. There is nothing like connecting with new parents and being able to help them stay calm and create the perfect environment for their session.
I always love doing these sessions in the family’s homes since so many little details are part of having a newborn! Like the chair you spent hours rocking them to sleep, or all the books you read to them at night. As kids grow up so fast, these little details often get forgotten. I love documenting them and giving my families photos they can reflect on and reminisce.
Baby John was such a superstar during this session. His little facial expressions and the love that radiated off mom and dad really made this session so special. I also love capturing baby hands and toes. Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how small newborns are, not to mention how cute they are too!
For this session, we really just kept things casual. Whitney and Cody wore cute and casual outfits that really blended in well with the natural pallet they have in the nursery. Whitney wore a gorgeous white turtleneck sweater, and Cody wore a dark green button-down with jeans. As a photographer, I always recommend my families to dress in what feels most comfortable to them. This way, we can get some authentic photos that feel natural and real to their everyday routine.
If you have recently welcomed a new little one into your family, be sure to reach out. I would love the opportunity to work with you to capture this incredibly special time in your family’s life.
