I loved photographing Nate and Alexa at their Spring Island engagement session! The couple met on Hinge, where they bonded over their shared love of martinis. Nate took Alexa to the best martini place in town, and the rest is history!

Although Nate and Alexa live in NYC, they decided to travel to the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry for their engagement session. Alexa’s parents own a home there, where they will tie the knot later this year! This couple is so fun, and I can’t wait to see them again for their wedding day. And if you have been following me for some time, you know how much I love The Lowcountry! And I can’t wait to work with Sincerely Yours Events, who I know will plan the most stunning affair.

The Proposal

The way Nate popped the question was so surprising and romantic! He chose the weekend of Alexa’s mom’s 60th birthday celebration in rural Pennsylvania when all their friends would be in town. On the morning of the party, Alexa was working hard on preparations. Everyone kept telling her that she should go and get ready—but she didn’t listen since the party wasn’t until 4:00 in the afternoon!

Then, Alexa’s parents asked her and Nate to do a task in their barn in the middle of a gorgeous cornfield. While they were there, Nate handed Alexa a letter. Since he writes her letters often (*swoon*), she didn’t think anything of it—until he insisted that she open it right then and there! She started reading, and as she did, she could hear soft string music. Soon, she realized it was a song from the soundtrack of If Beale Street Could Talk, one of the couple’s favorite movies. Between the music, the beautiful setting, and their friends right outside, Alexa wondered if the big moment had arrived!

She looked out the barn window and saw everyone standing in the backyard and looking at the horizon. Then, she turned toward the treeline and saw a plane circling the yard with a banner asking if she would marry Nate! When she turned to look at Nate, he was already on one knee with a ring in his hands. Of course, she responded with “YES”! Two champagne flutes from her parent’s wedding and a bottle of Veuve awaited them inside the barn, where they shared a few sips in private before going out to meet their friends and parents. It was a perfect day!

Burying The Bourbon At A Spring Island Engagement Session

Nate and Alexa’s Spring Island engagement session was full of fun activities that showed off their personality as a couple. They played golf together, snuggled their pup, and popped a bottle of champagne!

However, my favorite part of the session was burying the bourbon, an old Southern tradition. Legend has it that if a couple buries a full, upside-down bottle of bourbon one month before their wedding date, it will ward off rain on their special day, and they’ll have good fortune in their marriage! Plus, it makes for some great photos of the bride and groom wielding shovels!

If you and your partner are getting ready to say “I do,” I would be honored to document your love story. From your engagement to your big day, I’ll be there every step of the way to capture your cherished memories! Connect with me to learn more.
