Why My Husband is Right

Who knew I would EVER title a blog post that?!?! ;) Not me, that's for sure!

But, here's the deal.

A few nights ago, Micah and I were about to fall asleep, but I just laid awake exhaling loudly, implying something was clearly bothering me...as he asks me what was the matter I reply with, "I have so much to do, but not enough time to do it!" This was followed by a list of necessities and a list of "wants" in my business.

Running a photography business requires both dreaming and doing, but a fair share or prioritizing what matters TODAY and putting dream to action LATER. Kind of like eat your dinner first, THEN you get dessert. However, how common is it that we want dessert NOW because dinner is ick.

But, a body cannot simply run on donuts and pie y'all...(I know, I'm sad too) We NEED the protein and strength to keep us healthy and able. The same can be said with our businesses.

My husband's reply caught me off guard as he said, "Babe, you need to make a priority list everyday." I quickly came back with, "well DUH, I make a to-do list everyday!" But, he wasn't talking about a simple to-do list. He suggested I make my RIGHT NOW, NEEDS TO HAPPEN list...like finish editing a wedding with an upcoming due date instead of continuously dreaming of a perfect website, well manicured posts, pretty perfect packaging and the insta-dream life.

It's so easy with social media to think that it's just our business appearance that really makes us successful, but friends, put the pie down, it's time to eat some protein and focus on what matters most.

If I don't take care of what's on my plate now, how will I EVER have room for seconds?!

I want to take this time to encourage you RIGHT NOW, to step out of the dessert line, sit at your table and eat on what will benefit you in the long run.

What are you too busy dreaming of right now that your current work is getting put on the back burner?

A new website? A new brand?

Those things aren't bad, actually they're wonderful! But, like my bestie Thedore Roosevelt said,

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

If you're in this struggle -- don't worry, you're not alone! I want to ENCOURAGE you that it can be done!

We're better together friends!

And for once...my husband is TOTALLY right! ;)

(love you babe!)

As always, I love reading your comments and connecting with people; if you're in this struggle, hop on the bus and leave a comment below so we can connect and I can cheer you on!
